Geographical Background About the Grand Egyptian Museum
The Grand Egyptian museum "GEM" is located 2 km (1.2 mi) west of the Pyramid, near the highway. The north and south walls of the building line directly with the pyramids of King Khufu and Menkaure. If you've been to the existing Cairo's Egyptian Museum at Tahrir Square. Starting from the 19th to the 21st century, the old museum used to be a treasure trove, but the new Grand Egyptian Museum takes its guests the same way Howard Carter found the Boy King, in a $1 billion state-of-the-art glass and concrete exhibit space. A tomb from a century ago. A new location on the Giza Plateau on the edge of the western desert outside central Cairo, overlooking the Giza Pyramids adds to the atmosphere. In 1992 was the first announcement of the Grand Egyptian Museum in part of what was considered a fairly unsatisfactory choice for institutions introducing Egyptian inheritance. The venue was chosen to solve the problem of moving visitors through central Cairo's heavy traffic, but the architects from Ireland, Heneghan Peng dealt with the overcrowded acoustics of visitors and, crucially, the threat of protection. There is enough space for every piece of monuments, and also every guest. Dreams are big. Authorities hope that GEM will soon welcome 5 million visitors per year and surpass 7 million shortly thereafter. Tickets cost about $20, equivalent to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Louvre.
Journey Inside the GEM
The Grand Egyptian Museum is a flat and chamfered triangle. It is built on the slopes, it spans a gap in levels between the Nile Valley, which is the entrance, and the Giza Plateau, where the main gallery is located, with 162-foot. The museum's park has gardens for sculpture with huge statues. Don’t be surprised once you see Ramesses II welcomes you when you enter. Starting from here, from the height of the valley to the plateau, a large staircase is lined with 87 kings and images of God. The main gallery is in four parts each part shows an era of Egyptian history: The Old Dynasty (until 3100 BC) and the era of the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, the New Kingdom era (Tutankhamun, Ramses…etc.), and the Greco-Roman. It is like entering a time travel machine, and have a quick overview of the past. Finally, the visitor is returned to a tall glass window. This window overlooks Giza Pyramids, just to take home ancient Egypt’s wonders. This finale is a chronological view that puts under spot the greatest civilizations ever, with a view of the pyramids from this window. On the right side of the stairs is Tutankhamun’s Gallery, where 100% of what the tomb contains is being shown first time ever. Within the Grand Egyptian Museum, there is a children's museum that uses tricks of modern graphic visuals to explain the ancient world of Egypt to children. A particularly nice note in the Tut gallery: the monuments are organized in the same order which Carter had found in the first opening of the tomb. Of course, the Pandemic of COVID-19 delayed everything in our life, the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum included. But the authorities of antiquities in Egypt are working by leaps and bounds to make it done and open the Grand Egyptian Museum at the end of the last quarter of 2021, in a world-class festival. It is believed that the Grand Egyptian Museum will force all people to reschedule their trips to Cairo.
